E-Commerce at Traditional Retailers

Major retailers have had dramatic success over the past year at converting their in-store customers into on-line shoppers. Sean Kaldor, vice president of analytical services for Nielsen/Net Ratings said the top five brick-and-mortar mass retailers are matching and even exceeding the 34 percent year-over-year growth of online giant Amazon.com. Just over 2 million people accessed the Walmart.com site in June, making it the busiest mass retailer site. JCPenney.com had about 2 million visitors as well, followed by Kmart.com, Sears.com and Target.com with about 1.6 million visitors each. Kaldor said "the bottom line is that having strong brand recognition and a large established customer base has proven to be a winning formula for brick-and-mortars."
