Bankruptcy Lawyer DisbarredThe Associated Press reports that the New York State appeals court has disbarred Andrew Capoccia for continuing "to employ the courtroom strategy of filing claim upon claim against opponents even though he had been warned that they were often 'without merit' and sometimes bordered on the frivolous." Capoccia built his business through heavy advertising of his debt resolution services on television. "But his opponents said his practice was built upon countersuing the creditors of clients asserting consumer protection claims and technical violations of credit statutes." Legal conduct officials charged that the "real aim" of his tactics was to force creditors to settle for a fraction of their claims in order to avoid expensive, protracted litigation. Capoccia's attorney has said that he will appeal the ruling to a higher court.
