Hispanics Largest Minority GroupIf you provide financial services to consumers, it is worth noting the latest report from the Census Bureau. It concludes that Hispanics are "The nation's largest minority community." In the two years between 2000 and 2002, the Hispanic population grew to 38.8 million, an increase of nearly ten percent. Just over half of the increase in the Hispanic population is attributed to immigration. Hispanics comprise the largest portion of the emerging minorities. That growth rate was four times the growth rate of the U.S. population. Louis Kincannon, Director of the Census Bureau, points out that these data should set to rest disputes regarding the relative size of the Hispanic and African American populations in the U.S.
