Internet Saturation? While the percent of U.S. homes with high-speed Internet access remains relatively low, the percent of households with any kind of Internet access may have hit a plateau. According to Gartner Dataquest, a San Jose-based research firm, 63 percent of U.S. homes now have a computer and nearly all of those households have Internet access. Steven Jones, a senior research fellow at the Pew Internet and American Life Project, told The Wall Street Journal that it has taken only 7 years for the Internet to reach this level of penetration. Obstacles to greater adoption included the complexity of navigating the Web, a requirement by access providers that users have a credit card and a perception by some people that they have no need for the Internet.
