GE Capital Buys JCPenny Card Unit

In the latter part of 1999, GE Capital announced that it had agreed to purchase JCPenney’s credit card portfolio as well as its credit card service facilities. The addition of this portfolio increases GF Card Services’ portfolio by about 50 percent. In 1998, JCPenney had credit card sales of $7.8 billion from 35 million accounts.
